Vineyard Peter Schandl in Rust

WINE GROWING TRADITION SINCE 1741

ONLY 118 STEPS AWAY!

Paul Schandl runs the winery, which is owned by our family since 1741, together with his wife Elle and with the assistance of his mother Ursula and his father Peter. It is only 118 steps away from HOTEL SCHANDL ***S. Paul Schandl is aware of the tradition of Rust and therefore wants to grow and push historic types of wine, like Furmint, Gelber Muskateller and Welschriesling as well as Ruster Ausbruch (high-quality wine made from selected fully ripe grapes). He pays particular attention to Burgundy wines, which are pressed as Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. Depending on the vintage, spicy and dry wine is bottled. After a few years of ripening, they reach their climax.

Tradition is important to Paul Schandl, but he is also open to new things. He finished his education and training in wineries with international reputation in South Africa, New Zealand and California. At times, where the markets are being opened and where aspiring wine-growing regions are turning up, it is important to know about proven approaches, but also to keep the spirit of discovery and curiosity.
