They can be studied on guided tours, hikes or canoe trips.
Experience nature up close
The cross-border national park Neusiedler See-Seewinkel was founded in 1993. It has a surface of approximately 300 km2, about 100 km2 are located in Austria, the rest is located in Hungary. Due to its location at the eastern edge of the alps and the western edge of the smaller Hungarian lowlands, there are alpine, Pannonian, Asian, Mediterranean and Nordic plant and animal species. Different wetlands, grazing areas, grasslands, dry grasslands, sand steppes and salt sites are side by side like a mosaic.
he hillside Ruster Hügelland is a small mountain range that runs parallel to Lake Neusiedl. It is about 12 km long from Schützen am Gebirge to the North via Mörbisch am See to the Hungarian territory in Fertörakós (Kroisbach). The core of this mountain range consists of crystalline primary rock coated by limestone, sand-lime brick and fluviatile sediments. There are only a few spots where the bedrock is seen on the surface.
